Watch: Kamala Harris goes door-to-door to garner support on night before election

US Vice President and Democratic candidate Kamala Harris adopted a grassrooots approach by going door-to-door to connect with voters in person in Pennsylvania on the night before the final showdown with her Republican challenger Donald Trump in the 2024 presidential election.
During her door-knocking campaign, Harris decided to make a stop in a residential neighbourhood in Reading, Pa., to meet a family of three — two parents and an adult son, according to The Hill.
“Cole, that’s our son’s name!” she exclaimed, as she warmly shook hands with the young man. The friendly exchange was just one moment in a series of interactions aimed at building rapport with local residents in one of the crucial states.
Harris shared her door-knocking efforts on her social media account on X, posting a video of her Pennsylvania visit. “Took some time today to hear from voters in Pennsylvania and ask for their support,” she captioned the video, which showed her speaking with residents and encouraging them to get involved.
The post also included a link to campaign events, urging supporters to “join us on the doors”.
In the video, the Vice President is seen waiting patiently at a door before it opens. A woman emerges, warmly hugging Harris, soon joined by her husband.
Harris tells the couple, “I just wanted to come by and say, I hope to earn your vote”. The woman reassures her, responding with a smile, “You’ve already got my vote”.
As the US gears up for a closely-contested presidential election, swing states hold all the attention. Pennsylvania is an important one and could possibly prove to be decisive in who sits in the White House for the next term.
In an average poll conducted by The Hill, Harris is trailing the former president by 0.7 points. At the moment, she holds at 48 per cent support, while Trump leads with 48.7 per cent.
