Ikat is a dyeing and weaving technique that has been practiced in traditional cultures in many parts of the world.  It is distinguished by the fact that the threads are dyed before the fabric is woven.  As a result, the edges of the design's motifs have a characteristic blurred appearance.  Weaving is done by hand and requires skill to maintain the pattern's register.  This piece was hand crafted in the eastern India state of Andhra Pradesh.
Blend of 100% natural fibers hand-loomed with a silk warp and a cotton weft.

This fabric is
brand
new
, not "vintage."  In other words, it's not used, damaged, or dirty.   It is, however, folk art.  Because of the way it's produced, there may be occasional, small irregularities in the weave.
