Goodell-Pratt No4518 MAHOGANY / Fully BRASS Bound -18" Plumb / Level BEAUTIFUL!
WOW!  What a good looker!  This is one of the premium STRATTON series of levels produced by Goodell Pratt after they acquired the Stratton Level Company around the turn of the last century.  It is a
double
plumb and level made of fully brass bound Mahogany.  Strongly stamped in the brass around the level vial is "Goodell-Pratt Company Greenfield, Mass. U.S.A." and "No.4518".  Its dimensions in inches are approximately 1 x 2 x 18.
In good vintage condition just as it came from the tool box.  It has had only a very very light cleaning and the brass has NOT been polished, leaving intact its hard won patina.  "Toolbox" scratching and dinging in the metal and wood is on the slightly heavy side of average, noting that there is no consequential damage of any sort save for some tight seasoning cracks in the Mahogany.  The edges are sharp and crisp and all eight corners are in very good shape, with corner rounding and dinging limited to 1/32" or less.   None of the screws appear to have ever been removed.  All 3 vials are intact and appear original to this level.  The vials test to be reasonably (but not totally) accurate.
This well cared for level has acquired a wonderful patina over the last 100 years!
