Description
Offering a really nice 140 year old, "Davis Level & Tool Co." No. 2, 12" Inclinometer and Level. As you may know, there are different versions or types of this level. This one has the very fine filigree(vs. wide and thick); has the Davis Level and Tool Co. name on the top outer edge of the inclinometer(1875 and after; vs. L.L. Davis - 1874 and earlier) and one patent date(vs. 2) on the bottom outer edge. No gold paint.
Nice addition to your collection.
I'm a Davis collector, so if you have any questions, please ask.
Condition is Very Good. Only issue to mention is that the pointer has been replaced. The replacement is blued and very well-done, with a very sharp point, so it's not a distraction at all. The vial is good. The inclinometer is stiff but moves as it should. All 8 corners are full with no chips or breaks. Filigree is complete with no breaks and nothing missing(please check pictures) - always important on these levels, as they tend to break easily. There is chipping to the japanning, very common on these and usually tells us that the finish is original. The screws on the inclinometer(3) are Very Good to Fine, as are the (2) on the top rail.
NO breaks or repairs.
